Week 9 Update

Vasyl

Initial testing of AUTO mode was conducted with Jordan on the blinds by using flashlights as light source both sensors in order to indicate more light inside/ outside the blinds. The system was set to read and move blinds every 5 seconds for debugging purposes. The blinds moved as intended after adding compensation factor to outside sensor. The TSL2591 sensor was reading approximately 5.5 more lux than actual measured lux (used phone app: Lux).

Range of Bluetooth connection was tested in open lab by operating blinds in manual mode and moving blinds in interval of approximately 2-3 seconds and walking away from the room. The connection maintained above 75ft, with 4 walls between blinds and phone.

More efficient memory utilization needs to be done in order to guarantee Arduino Nano stabilization for long term use. This will be addressed by removing redundant variables and print strings, and use long int variables instead of strings where possible.

A blank PCB board was used to solder common connections between Arduino and modules, RTC, BLE, TSL2591, BH1750 all have common terminals for power, ground, SDA, SCL. After making initial PCB board, Jordan and I agreed that a new and slightly larger PCB board should be used for more efficient cable management, old and new PCB board is shown below. Each common node was soldered to PCB board with small bits of bare wire for guaranteed connection between common terminals.

The blinds were put in a window to test auto mode for 24 hours. The battery and charge controller were not in place due to obstruction of mounting screws of TSL sensor, thus the charge controller and battery were taped to the wall during testing. The recording was done in time-lapse for 24 hours of operation, I did my best to slow down the video at blinds moving to better perspective. Video is shown below.
